10 Easy Steps to Apply for a Pakistan Tourist Visa Online

Now that you know the different visa types and their requirements, let's walk through the step-by-step process of applying for a Pakistan Tourist visa:

  • Create an account on the Pakistan Online Visa System.
  • Fill in the application form. Allow plenty of time if you are applying online as you will also need to provide full details of your parents, siblings and other family members, full employment details and your travel history for the last three years. It took me over 45 minutes to complete the entire Pakistan visa application process.
  • It may be useful to know that there is really no need to stress about entering every single detail of your travel history for the last three years. For me personally, it was a challenge to list every single destination and remember the exact dates of travel, as I regularly travel around the world. So even without listing every single destination with the correct dates, my visa was accepted. However, I recommend to at least (try to) include all the countries and relevant travel details from which you have stamps in your passport.
  • If you have a sponsor (i.e. an invitation from a friend or relatives living in Pakistan), you will need to upload an affidavit or Bayan e halfi. An affidavit in Pakistan is a signed letter of invitation on stamped paper, duly certified by the oath commissioner. The affidavit must clearly state your name and passport number. To get your affidavit on stamped paper, you must go to a licensed stamp dealer or lawyer. Also make sure you get an Apostille stamp in Pakistan.

  • Pay the application processing fees via credit card.
  • Submit your application (and hope for the best).
  • If necessary: Sometimes the Government of Pakistan will require you to make an appointment at an embassy in your country to submit your visa application and supporting documents. For this reason, I strongly recommend that you apply for your visa well in advance, so that any embassy appointments don't interfere with your travel plans.
  • Only if you have an embassy appointment will you need to prepare for and attend the visa interview. I recommend that you prepare for the interview by checking your application and supporting documents and being prepared to answer questions about your purpose of travel. Fortunately, I didn't have to go through this step...
  • Wait for your visa to be processed: Once you have submitted your application, all you can do is wait. The processing time can vary depending on the embassy or consulate and the type of visa you are applying for. In my case, it was super fast - I had my visa in just four days! Usually however, they require 7-10 working days of processing time for the General Tourist Visa and up to 4 weeks in working days for the Mountaineering and Trekking Visa. I recommend that you be patient as it can sometimes take longer and avoid making any travel plans until you have received a decision on your application.
  • Print your visa: Once your application has been approved, you will be notified by email and will receive your visa to Pakistan electronically. Please make sure you print out your visa as you will need to show a hard copy of it when you enter and leave Pakistan. They won't accept an electronic version only.

Congratulations! You have successfully applied for a Pakistan visa. Now, it's time to prepare for your journey and explore the wonders that Pakistan has to offer.

Best Practices for a Successful Pakistan Visa Application

Now that you know which type of tourist visa to choose and its specific requirements, you can maximize your chances of success in obtaining a Pakistani visa by following these tips:

  1. Start early: I recommend that you begin the visa application process well in advance of your planned travel dates - at least 3 months before your trip. This will allow time for any unforeseen delays or additional documentation requirements.
  2. Review visa requirements: Thoroughly review the visa requirements for your chosen category to ensure you have all the necessary documentation. It's easy to overlook or upload incomplete documents (which has happened to me), resulting in delays or even denial of your visa.
  3. Complete the application form accurately: Take the time to complete the visa application form. Double check all the information you provide and make sure it matches the information on your supporting documents.
  4. Prepare for the visa interview: If a visa interview is required, prepare by familiarizing yourself with your application and supporting documents. Practice answering possible questions (with your family or friends) related to your purpose of travel. See below for more helpful information on how to best prepare for a visa interview.
  5. Be truthful and consistent: Be truthful and consistent throughout the visa application process. Any inconsistencies or misrepresentations may result in a visa denial. Remember, the truth always shines through.
  6. Follow instructions carefully: Pay close attention to the instructions provided by the embassy or consulate. Follow all guidelines regarding document format, photo specifications, and payment methods.
  7. Maintain a professional appearance: When attending a visa interview, dress professionally and present yourself in a respectful manner. A positive first impression can make all the difference.
  8. Be patient: Visa processing times can vary, so be patient while waiting for a decision on your application. Avoid making travel plans until you receive confirmation of your visa approval. Remember the anecdote from the beginning about Markus and his difficulties in getting his visa…

The Pakistan Visa Interview Process

Some visa categories may require applicants to attend an interview as part of the visa application process. The purpose of the interview is to assess the credibility of the applicant and gather additional information related to the purpose of travel. Here's what you can expect during a Pakistan visa interview:

  • Appointment scheduling: If a visa interview is required, you will be notified by the embassy or consulate to schedule an appointment. Follow the instructions provided to book the interview at a convenient date and time.
  • Preparation: Review your visa application and supporting documents before the interview. Familiarize yourself with the details and be prepared to answer questions related to your purpose of travel, itinerary, accommodation, and financial arrangements.
  • Interview questions: The visa officer may ask questions to verify the information provided in your application. Make sure you are able to answer all these questions easily and according to the details entered on your visa application, without entering an embrassing situation. Therefore, practicing some answers at home to the questions listed above could be a good starting point to be more confident on the day of interview. Some common interview questions may include:
    • What is the purpose of your visit to Pakistan?
    • How long do you plan to stay in Pakistan?
    • Do you have any family or friends in Pakistan?
    • What is your occupation and employer?
    • How do you plan to finance your stay in Pakistan?
  • Supporting documents: Bring copies of all your supporting documents to the interview, even if you have already submitted them with your application. The visa officer may request additional evidence or clarification during the interview.
  • Professional conduct: Dress professionally and present yourself in a respectful manner during the interview. Answer questions confidently, honestly, and concisely. Maintain eye contact and be polite throughout the interview process.

Remember, the visa interview is an opportunity to provide additional information and demonstrate your genuine intention to visit Pakistan. Be prepared, stay calm, and answer the questions to the best of your ability.

Pakistan Visa Extension and Renewal Process

If you wish to extend your stay in Pakistan beyond the validity of your visa, or if your visa is about to expire, you may need to apply for a visa extension or renewal. The process may vary depending on your visa category and individual circumstances. Here's an overview of the Pakistan visa extension and renewal process:

  1. Determine eligibility: Check if you are eligible for a visa extension or renewal based on your current visa category. Some visa types may not be eligible for extensions or renewals. You can check your country’s eligibility for the different tourist visas in the sections above.
  2. Gather required documents: Collect all the necessary documents for the visa extension or renewal application. These may include your passport, visa extension/renewal application form, proof of valid reason for extension/renewal, and any additional supporting documents.
  3. Visit the designated office: Visit the relevant office or authority responsible for visa extensions or renewals. This may be the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Pakistan or the Pakistani embassy or consulate in your home country.
  4. Submit the application: Submit the visa extension or renewal application along with the required documents as outlined in the sections above. Ensure that you have all the necessary paperwork in the specified format.

Final Words

It was only 30 minutes left before driving to Munich airport and to check in to our flight to Pakistan. I was still having breakfast when Markus called. “Nik, you don’t believe what happened! I called the visa agency this morning 7am who told me I had to sort things out myself with the embassy in Frankfurt. So I called them and was lucky enough to get someone on the phone. They told me my visa application had already been through more than a week ago but not sent to me yet via email. Now it’s in my inbox. We’re good to go together!” I was so relieved…

Traveling to Pakistan was one of the most memorable experiences I have ever done. Soon I will be publishing more insights on my adventure. But before this amazing experience I had to go through a nightmare. This is why I really hope that my tips will allow you make your application process much smoother.

7 Common Reasons for Visa Application Rejection and How to Avoid Them

While applying for a Pakistan visa, it's essential to be aware of common reasons for visa application rejection. By understanding these reasons, you can take steps to avoid them and increase your chances of a successful visa application. Here are some common reasons for visa application rejection and tips to avoid them:

  1. Incomplete or incorrect application: Ensure that you fill out the visa application form accurately and provide all the necessary information. Double-check your application before submission to avoid any errors or omissions.
  2. Missing or incorrect supporting documents: Review the visa requirements carefully and gather all the required documents. Ensure that your documents are in the specified format and provide accurate information. Any missing or incorrect documents can lead to visa rejection.
  3. Insufficient funds: Demonstrate your financial capability to cover your stay in Pakistan. Provide sufficient evidence of funds, such as bank statements or sponsorship letters. If your financial documents are insufficient or raise doubts, your visa application may be rejected.
  4. Lack of strong ties to your home country: The visa officer wants to ensure that you have strong ties to your home country and will return after your visit to Pakistan. Provide evidence of your ties, such as employment proof, property ownership, or family responsibilities.
  5. Inconsistent or false information: Be truthful and consistent throughout your visa application process. Any discrepancies or false information can lead to visa rejection. Cross-check all information provided to ensure accuracy.
  6. Previous visa rejections: If you have previously been denied a visa to Pakistan or any other country, it's essential to address the reasons for the rejection in your current application. Provide additional documentation or explanations to overcome any concerns.
  7. Overstaying on previous visits: If you have a history of overstaying in Pakistan or any other country, it may raise concerns about your future compliance with visa regulations. Ensure that you adhere to visa rules and return within the permitted time frame.

By avoiding these common pitfalls and addressing any concerns upfront, you can increase your chances of a successful Pakistan visa application. Good luck!

  5. Pay the applicable fees: Pay the fees associated with the visa extension or renewal process as instructed by the respective office or authority. Keep the payment receipt for future reference.
  6. Wait for processing: The processing time for visa extensions or renewals can vary. Be patient while your application is being processed and avoid making any travel plans until you receive a decision.
  7. Collect your passport with the updated visa: Once your visa extension or renewal has been approved you can collect your entry document along with your passport.

As you can see renewing or extending your Pakistan visa is a straightforward process. I’m sure you can manage.
